Why Most Dog Foods Fail: The Truth About Kibble and What Your Dog Really Needs

Most of us grew up believing kibble is complete and balanced. It’s convenient, lasts forever on shelves, and has all those reassuring words on the label. But here’s the truth: convenience doesn’t equal health.

What Really Goes Into Kibble?

Kibble is made by extrusion - a process that subjects raw materials to high heat and pressure, stripping away natural nutrients. Artificial vitamins and minerals are then sprayed back in to meet minimal standards.

Worse, many kibbles use:

  • Low-quality proteins ("meat meal" or "by-products")
  • Carbohydrate fillers (corn, wheat, soy)
  • Preservatives, colors, and synthetic flavors

These ingredients aren’t just unnecessary. They can harm your dog’s gut, contribute to inflammation, and fuel chronic conditions like obesity, joint issues, skin problems, and allergies.

What Should Dogs Really Eat?

Dogs thrive on fresh, species-appropriate diets. Think whole meats, organs, bone (if raw-fed), gently cooked veggies, healthy fats. A balanced fresh food diet supports:

  • Stronger immunity
  • Better digestion and stool quality
  • Shinier coat and healthier skin
  • Improved mood and energy
  • Long-term disease prevention

If switching feels overwhelming, start small: even replacing one kibble meal a day with a fresh meal can make a big difference.
